Family Weekend 2015
This is an annual event where we spend a weekend away as a church family in the lovely surroundings of Scarborough.
Each year, our weekend is steered by a leader, and we spend some time looking at the story of Jesus, and the importance of how Jesus should be at the centre of everything we do.
Please read on to hear from some of those who attended in 2015.
Just over 30 of us made our way to the Green Gables Hotel once again and as always thoroughly enjoyed our time there. If you have never been on one of these events, do please seriously consider joining us next year, which has already been booked.
The atmosphere was relaxed throughout with a mixture of discussions, games, quizzes, craft and free time, plus plenty of good food and dry, if rather cold, weather!
Having never been on the church family weekend before we didn’t know what to expect. We needn’t have worried as we were made to feel genuinely welcome and part of the whole weekend. The hotel staff were friendly, the food plentiful and the surroundings lovely. The people weren’t too bad either!
The weekend passed far too quickly with a mix of friendship, worship and entertainment. Even our free time was made special as the sun shone down on Scarborough. It was a truly family weekend, spending time together with our own family and our church family. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it such a special time. We hope to be returning again next year.

The weekend was based on a really good story “Jesus’ Day Off”. We set off to Scarborough for two days off, a time to play and pray together and we did – big time. Having a refreshing and happy time, in fellowship and fun. There were activities for everyone whatever age; we all came together as one big happy family. New people joined us this year. Friends from Hanging Heaton and Central and would like to join us again. One lady said she had not laughed so much for years.
The wonderful weekend would not have happened but for some special people. For booking and finance, sorting the rooms out. The people who arranged and supervised all the activities for the young and not so young. The unexpected little gifts all with a scripture verse, lovingly made for us. All this would not have happened but for the people who got us there and back.
We enjoyed time in Scarborough; the young on the sands and donkey rides and the lovely walks not forgetting the shops.
Next year hopefully we will have another weekend a bit later in April. Why not think about, give it a try and let your hair down for a wonderful time? Thanks again to all who made it possible and to be a family.
